What HMRC Recognition Means

HMRC recognition is not automatic. Before software can be listed on HMRC's official software choices pages and carry the MTD Recognised trademark, it must pass a technical assessment against HMRC's full MTD specification.

My Tax Digital has been assessed and approved across the following areas:

Requirement Details
API compliance Full integration with HMRC's MTD APIs, covering VAT obligations and submissions, and all currently available ITSA APIs
Fraud prevention headers Mandatory device and connection data transmitted with every API call, as required under The Delivery of Tax Information through Software (Ancillary Metadata) Regulations 2019
Digital record keeping End-to-end digital links from source data through to submission, with no manual re-keying at any stage
ITSA income sources Quarterly updates for sole trader, UK property, and foreign property income; full tax return support including employment, savings and dividends, pensions, capital gains, CIS, Gift Aid, student loans, Marriage Allowance, and High Income Child Benefit Charge
Security Data encrypted in transit and at rest; secure authentication via HMRC's OAuth 2.0 service

Fraud Prevention

HMRC requires all recognised MTD software to submit fraud prevention data alongside every API call. This includes device identifiers, connection details, and client information, which HMRC uses to detect and prevent fraudulent submissions.

My Tax Digital transmits this data automatically and in full compliance with HMRC's fraud prevention specification. No action is required from users.

Staying Recognised

HMRC recognition requires ongoing compliance. My Tax Digital is actively maintained to track changes to HMRC's APIs, fraud prevention requirements, and MTD legislation, ensuring we remain recognised as the MTD programme continues to expand to more taxpayers.
